Sweet Pause
Description
I photographed this woman in Barrydale, a small town on the edge of the Klein Karoo with deep Khoi and San heritage. Many of the local workers in the area trace their roots back to these communities : the first people of Southern Africa, and her features carried that history with a quiet strength.
She was sitting outside in the afternoon shade, enjoying a lollipop with an ease and confidence that immediately caught my eye. The light fell beautifully across her face, highlighting the lines, the character, and the heritage she carried so naturally.
As always, I approached her with respect and asked if I could make her portrait. She agreed, and I photographed her exactly as she was: relaxed, expressive, and full of presence. A simple, human moment in a town shaped by history and creativity.
